It can be difficult to take pride in one’s community when buildings are dilapidated, unsafe and unsanitary. That is why one of MAII’s initiatives in northern Haiti is to help physically revitalize towns through building projects. We build public structures such as schools, orphanages, health facilities and meeting areas. When families are in need, we construct or renovate homes to ensure that all people have a safe dwelling place.
We might be building one structure at a time, but we always aim to make our projects enrich the entire community. We select the recipients of our home building projects through a process of careful community discernment in order to ensure that each new construction brings neighbors together rather than creating divisive resentment.
Our team is dedicated to teaching construction skills to anyone who wishes to participate in building projects, whether they are future residents, neighbors, or volunteers from far away. Joint construction gives everyone a sense of accomplishment and can enhance resumes for future employment.

Project Spotlight: Build a School, Build a Future
MAII has already worked to make a difference in the lives of children and families in six rural communities in northern Haiti, providing access to quality education. But our work is far from over. Build a School, Build a Future is our latest endeavor in which we hope to build three schools in the towns of Bazillant, Chouchou Bay and Robert in northern Haiti.

In Robert and Bazillant in particular, most children either stay at home when their parents cannot afford to school them or must walk over an hour to another area school when they are lucky enough to get an education. If they can make their long journey, they are often exhausted by the time they arrive to school and have very little energy left for learning.
- Why should you help the children of these particular towns?
The people of these towns do not believe in handouts. Since they realize that education is key to their children’s future success, they have made themselves and their limited resources available for the construction of the schools. Community members in Bazillant and Robert donated the land on which to build the schools. Everyone from children, women and men also participate in the construction work whenever materials are available through the generous donations of supporters like you.

- Please help us give them a hand up to finish the schools.
You can change these children’s futures by giving them more opportunities to learn and grow in their own localities. Monetary donations of any denomination are always appreciated. We also accept donations of certain construction materials and school furniture. Your contribution will serve as a cornerstone upon which MAII can provide the high-quality education Haiti’s children need to move out of poverty.
