We run educational, health, and other social service programs at 8 sites across Haiti.
The Republic of Haiti is located on the western portion of the island of Hispaniola, sharing a frontier with the Dominican Republic. The country is one of least-developed nations in the western hemisphere, with a staggering 78% of all Haitians living on less than US $2 each day.
Having been in Haiti for more than 30 years, MAII knows well the impact of chronic poverty on underserved communities, and particularly those in remote, rural areas of the country. We have met distraught parents who watched their children cried themselves to sleep from hunger, and dreading the next day because they did not know where the next meal would come from. We have also seen the crippling effects of illiteracy on young men and women, trapped into a world of deprivation and unemployment. Many of our families have also lost loved ones – children, siblings, parents, and other relatives— torn from their lives by untreated, preventable diseases.
MAII works hard to change the economic and social conditions that make it virtually impossible for families to provide and care for their members. However, we cannot do it alone. We need your help in order to continue to offer the high-quality education, healthcare, and other important services that would enable people in these communities to lead more self-sufficient lives.
You have the power to make a significant difference in the life of a child or young adult through a gift, a monetary donation, a sponsorship, or your donated time as a volunteer with MAII. Get involved today by supporting any one of our programs, or assisting in the area of greatest need. No contribution is too small.
